Reinstate Hans Kung
as an official Catholic theologian

Hans Küng was one of the most important and respected Catholic theologians since Vatican II, but his license to teach as a Catholic theologian was revoked in 1979.  Sign a petition to Pope Francis asking him to correct this wrong by visiting here.

Response to Madison Diocese Directive
"Consideration of Funeral Rites for a Person in a Homosexual Civil or Notorious Union"  click here to read

We, Madison Catholics who are members of Call to Action-Madison Area, vehemently oppose the ideas and spirit of the directive from the Vicar General of the Diocese of Madison with the approval of Bishop Morlino of Madison. This directive betrays the Christian and Catholic faith in that it tries to uphold an outdated, judgmental theology. Pope Francis sent a signal to us when he stated, "Who am I to judge?" To imply that a funeral perhaps should occur without a Mass, that the deceased needed to show repentance (more than any other Catholic) or that partners not be involved in a prominent role at any ecclesiastical funeral service is insensitive, cruel, and unchristian. The directive indicates that even the name of the celebrating priest and/or the parish not be listed in any public obituary or notice that also lists the predeceased or surviving “partner” in some manner, as if the Church should avoid or be ashamed of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

We at Call to Action wish to apologize on behalf of our hierarchy in Madison and offer welcome and healing for all Catholics in our diocese.

*** Action Alert! Stand with Church Workers ***

At the recent Call To Action Annual Conference over a thousand Catholics declared that unjust firings are not in line with our Catholic tradition and have no part in the future of our Church. The Catholic Church Worker Declaration, a document meant to bring Catholics together to stop these firings, was enthusiastically affirmed.

Be in solidarity with Church Workers by signing this petition affirming the declaration and calling for an end to discriminatory firings of Catholic Church Workers.

Please invite friends, family, and members of the communities to which you belong to sign this petition. Together, we can rise up and say: no more unjust firings in our name!

Formulas & substitutions to help minimize the use of toxic substances & reduce environmental harm

Dishwashing Soap

Commercial low-phosphate detergents are not themselves harmful, but phosphates nourish algae which use up oxygen in waterways. A detergent substitution is to use liquid soap. Add 2 or 3 tablespoons of vinegar to the warm, soapy water for tough jobs.

 Sign the Council 50 Declaration

The Global Council Network invites Catholics to sign the Council 50 Declaration, which commits its signatories to work for change in the Church.  The declaration was produced at a conference last November after last fall’s synod demonstrated that bishops are unlikely to support real change in the Church: reform will have to come from the faithful.  You can read and sign the declaration here.
