Press Release—“Call to Action”
Madison Wisconsin –
March 5, 2011
Call To Action, Madison, a progressive Catholic organization, stands in solidarity with the working class people and unions of Wisconsin in protesting Governor Walker’s tax bill and budget proposal.
A fair and just way to balance the budget would be to propose shared sacrifice—asking for cuts across the economic spectrum. What has come to light in this bill—and many across the country—is that the bill is much less about balancing the budget than about taking away the rights of public employee unions.
A budget is a moral document which makes evident the priorities of a city, state or nation. When the priorities burden excessively the middle class, the poor, the elderly and deprive unions of collective bargaining rights, the budget is immoral and unjust. This is entirely unacceptable.
We, the Call To Action—Madison members commit our voices, our presence, our prayer and our actions to stand against this unjust bill and with the working people in the state of Wisconsin.
